Poetry 101: “Smeek” by Cristy Joy
the relentless chatter
in the soliloquy of life
smokebox tapping in the distance
to the distant melody of a hummingbird
await in silence
through the thick cloud
hustle, bustle, and blow your house down
tapping away into the moonlight
the rooster awakens
on a brand new day
casually sip an iced frappucino
vanilla, to be exact
nobody can extract the simplicity
of a choirboy singing in the field
she laughs relentlessly
into the steamy sauna of subordination
the haunting echo of time
peer into the distance
it’s close
but not by a longshot
stammer & hammer
that delicate harmony
it’s so easy to see
the waves crashing into boulders
nothing can smolder
the delicate pitter patter
of children at play
come today
and witness forever
